The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jcsr.springeropen.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s40991-018-0039-y\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1960s and the counterculture movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are often considered the start of the \u201csocially aware\u201d trend that companies incorporate into their marketing models.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) started to gain considerable traction, and CSR soon became the norm for any company that wanted to play a dominant role in the market.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In current times, these companies have gotten really good at using social media to signal their support for a number of sensitive social issues that they know people are passionate about. These issues can revolve around issues of race, sex, gender, LGBT, women&#8217;s rights, and climate change, to name a few.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses also pay a lot of attention to the target of these efforts. They sell something much more valuable.
